Advisors play an important role in student organizations and the guidance, support and mentorship they provide can be what turns a good organization into a great organization.
The role of the advisor depends on the wants and needs of each student organization. Some advisors play very active roles and attend meetings, work with student officers and assist in program planning. Others stay on the periphery and are a resource for student organizations on an as-needed basis. It is important that advisors openly discuss their advising commitments with the executive members of the organization.
If interested in becoming an advisor, be sure to review the Advisor Manual to understand the role in advising an organization.
The Student Leadership and Involvement Center hosts Advisor meetings throughout the year. The option to schedule individual appointments with the Coordinator for Student Organization Development, Donte Sharpe, is also available.
